Civil Law
Liability for harm to private goods and interests is often dealt with by civil law. This may include not only individuals’ private economic interest (e.g., property, livelihoods), but also their health and wellbeing. Civil law may also support cases where organisations have helped remedy certain environmental harms. Although focused on private interests, the remedies resulting from cases pursued through civil law (e.g., clean-up, habitat restoration) may also benefit the broader public interest.
